This is a controverisal subject I am sure. How old should a child be allowed to have a pacifier? I was in the store yesterday and saw a little girl with a pacifier, a blanket and a teddy bear. She was huge. Knowing that kids are looking older and older these days, I politely asked the mom how old the girl was. She was 7 year sold. Too old in my opinion. I used to be a preschool teacher and we had 3-4 year old children with them. My son gave his up on his own last week (he is 9 wweeks today) How old should kids be allowed to keep these? I think no longer than 1 year.

We made my daughter give hers up prior to turning one year old. She didn't need it anymore - it was becoming a habit for her. She gave it up easily at the babysitters. At home was a different story. We eventually told her she didn't need it anymore and took it away. Never to be seen again. My son was much easier. He was teething at 6 months old and didn't like anything touching his sore gums. So he refused to use the pacifer. I agree that parents need to get a hold of the issue and set some limits. I would much rather my child be using a pacifer than their thumb though!!!!
