If you take your own photo of your child sitting with Santa, be ready to pay!

Have you noticed that many of the places in the mall will say "it's free to sit with Santa Claus, but if you take a photo with your own camera of your child and Santa you will have to pay a fee". From what I've heard the fee is even more than the medium priced packages, do you think that's fair? We didn't bring our own camera, but I think for those that do they should tell you what the fee is so you can make your decision based on that information.

At most of the shopping malls here in Australia if your kids have a photo taken with the mall Santa you get one free photo, all you have to do is spend a certain amount (some places you just have to spend something - no set value) at one of the shops.
You can do this once a day, so technically you could take one kid each day until you'd got one of each of them sitting with Santa.
We just had all out kids done together and it didn't cost us anything.

you got lucky then, I've heard most malls around me charge no matter what if you take a photo.

I do get the packages of Santa pictures for my kids. I agree that the price for a picture is usually outrageous though. I know the "people" are in for the money, but I really don't think they should have the right to tell you, you can't take your own picture.

Well, I think it should be a much smaller fee but not free either. Otherwise they'd never make any money at all.
