Do you give the Homeless\Transients, money when they ask for it?

Whenever I see one of these people on the streets,I feel obligated to give them money. Even though I know alot of them just by alcohol or drugs with it. It's not totally a "sympathy" thing for me, it's more of a " What would god think if he saw me ignoring this person right now?" What do you think?
