If you were studying French and had the chance to study for a year at a French university, would you go?

At first glance it seems a no-brainer. 12 months immersed in the language and culture of your chosen major and a year out of the traditional educational system. There are a lot of details that get brushed under the carpet in the heat and excitement of agreeing to go.
Few language courses nowadays are pure language. They come with modules of politics, or economics, or a second even third language. How many people consider the ground they will lose by studying their whole course in a second language? I didn't. And came home further behind in almost every discipline, than when I left - French included!
Anyone else have a similar time or a great time? And when I say great, 24 hour parties and weeks on the beach isn't the fun I am talking about. You went to study, so was the studying fun and beneficial?
