HTML is HyperText Markup Language
This is standard of w3c ( WWW Consortium ). It belongs to a group of language called SGML. XML also belongs to SGML. HTML is used for authering webpages. While XML has a wide variety of applications. The XML version of HTML is called XHTML. This is also brought up by w3c.
