Do construction contractors get a bad rap?

I'm having a difficult time in finding a reliable electrician. I used one for a year or two and thought that he was reliable and did good work. I even recommended him to a few friends of mine. Now I need work done and he never shows up. I get him on the phone and he says he's coming and doesn't show. Since I really need the work done, I then lined up a few electricians to replace him. None of them are calling back. What gives? Is business that good that they no longer need any new business? Can anyone give me insight as to why I'm having such a difficult time?
