This was one of my son's favorite snacks. I always prepared it the old fashion way in an iron skillet on top of the stove. It took so long and I had to stay right with it when I was cooking it. I kept trying to find a quicker and easier way to prepare this wonderful snack. Finally one day I decided to try to trick my son, who was only 5 at the time, I toasted the bread in a pop-up toaster, spread butter on both outside pieces of bread, put the cheese on the bread and popped it in the microwave to melt the cheese. I just knew there was no way to tell the difference, but to my surprise he knew after the first bite that I had made it differently. LOL. It wasn't horrible, it was just different. So from that point on when I was in a hurry I would prepare my grilled cheese this way. But if he was sick he would beg me to make an old fashioned grilled cheese. lol. so I would. How do you make your grilled cheese? Looking for unique ways to make this wonderful snack.

i've always loved them, too, ...i just heat some butter in a regular or iron skillet and make sure both sides are nicely browned before i put on my cheese...but i like mine a little different than most..i like swiss cheese instead of american, and i also like to add a slice of tomato. If you've never had it this way, try it...it's my favorite

It is very easy, read some of the other post on how they are made. It is simple and easy and kids love them, along with many adults.

I like grilled cheese sandwiches the old fashioned way. There are those little electric sandwich makers that make a good grilled cheese sandwich. If you make them often it might be worth the investment.

I am very familiar with grilled cheese but I would like to contribute one of my cheese and bread recipes. I use an electric two side grill. I put butter on the outside of each bread, put cheese in the middle and put arrange the bread nicely on top of each other. Then I place it neatly on the electric grill, shut it down and let it grill for half a minute. When it's done, both sides are brown. The bread is crispy and the cheese is marvelously melt. Yum yum. Merry Christmas.

I have never seen the electric sandwich makers. I no longer make them now, because my son has moved away and I never think about making them for myself. I think I may have one tonight in his honor. LOL

I don't think there is much of a variation in making grilled cheese. The best you can do is switch up the cheese types and for my kids to have a more well-rounded sandwich I had ham or turkey to it. Other than that you gotta go buttered bread on a griddle :)

I like ham in my toasted cheese. Makes it a whole new sandwhich. I also like using different cheeses. Sometimes at cafeterias me and my friends add a hamburger patty to the toasted cheese for a nice hamburger cheese sandwhich.

I toast mine .. x_O'' Get a good toaster oven, and let it sit there for a few min until it's toasty ... Tastes just the same with the less chance of burnt bread

Yes I had a toaster oven years ago but now I just have the pop-up toaster. I would imagine it would be easy in a toaster oven.

I use a griddle pan to make mine most of the time. I butter the outsides and use cheese (a variety of cheeses) on the inside. Sometimes I put tomatoes in it as well, or lunchmeats as requested by my family. If I need to make a large amount, I prepare the sandwiches and put them on a baking sheet in the oven at 350. I flip them when one side gets browned and they're done when the other side is browned.

Oh this is a great idea. I could have been doing this when his friends came over instead of doing one at a time. Thank you for the info.

Oh absolutely i love grilled cheese Here you might find this useful Grilled Cheese on the Grill Recipe #127960 2 servings 15 min 10 min prep Change to: servings US Metric 4 slices dense white bread 6 slices bacon, cooked 4 slices cheddar cheese or your favorite cheese 1 tomato, sliced 2 tablespoons butter Preheat grill or grill pan until hot. Lightly butter one side of each of two pieces of bread. Lay bread slices, buttered sides down, on a plate. Top both with cheese, and add tomatoes to one. Place bread on the grill, buttered side down; cover. Grill until the cheese has melted, about two minutes. Remove sandwich halves from grill. Add the bacon. Season with salt and pepper. Put the sandwich halves together, and serve. GREEK GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES This recipe can be prepared in 45 minutes or less. The importance of vine-ripened tomatoes goes without saying, but don't compromise with the bread, feta, or olive oil, either. This delicious sandwich deserves the best. 1 round loaf of crusty bread (about 8 inches in diameter) about 5 tablespoons olive oil 1/2 pound feta 1 large tomato 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh oregano leaves freshly ground black pepper Cut four 1/2-inch-thick slices from middle of loaf and brush both sides of each slice with some oil. Cut enough 1/4-inch-thick slices from feta to cover 2 slices of bread and cut tomato into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Assemble 2 sandwiches with feta and tomato slices, seasoning filling with oregano, pepper, and salt. In a 12-inch nonstick skillet heat 1 tablespoon oil over moderate heat until hot but not smoking and cook sandwiches until golden, about 2 minutes on each side. Serves 2. Tried and tested just make it and you wont regret it am damn sure! It will be a treat for your son

I put 2 slices of cheese between the bread and put butter in the skillet and cook it til the cheese is melted. My mom always melted the cheese in the oven. I'm sure it's healthier that way.
