I've been wanting to see a film version of Neil Gaiman's satiric "Good Omens" for the longest time. And finally, my prayers have been answered.
Terry Gilliam is reportedly developing the script and helming the project.
Casting rumors abound, but none have been confirmed. The best casting rumor I've heard to date is that Johnny Depp will be playing the deliciously wicked Crowley.

I know! I literally shrieked when I first heard it. My sister told me in an authoritative "I-can't-be-wrong" attitude, and I stupidly assumed that a deal was already inked. Stupid me. I checked it out, and it's still an unconfirmed rumor after all. According to recent reports, studio execs are in talks to sign him up. But until a formal press release gets published, we won't know for sure. *crossing fingers*

Update on the movie: It's fallen off IMDB altogether, though Gilliam says he still would like to do the movie at some point.
Bit of fun trivia: Gaiman and Pratchett didn't want anyone but Gilliam to do the movie. They therefore made the price of the movie rights 1 Groat (an old English coin, about 4 pence), which Gilliam paid, after buying a suitable coin off eBay ;)

The book only appeared in Romania in 2008, so my wait will be shorter.
I just finished the book today, and while I was reading the last pages, I was thinking it would make a great movie.
I don't care who plays who, as long as they make the movie! It's a great news that they are thinking of it, thanks for sharing this information with us!

Oh boy, that would end up being fun if Terry Gilliam is in charge! I hope something comes of the rumor; I loved the book and wouldn't mind seeing a movie made of it, even if they do have to alter some things. It's usually a nice surprise finding out that a book you love is going to made into a big screen production; a few weeks ago, a friend of mine told me that one of the DragonLance books is going to be turned into an animated movie and I was very amused. XD

I see that your original post was made 10 months ago so I thought I'd ask if there's been any word of verification yet about a movie.
I have been dying to see Good Omens made into a movie - it would be fantastic!
