Have you ever used them? I just got one, first they charge you $9.95 to activate it. So I call up to activate it and the guy tries to sell me the premium upgrade so I can use it in stores and at ATMs. That is 19.95. Now, I started with 20.00. I told the guy if I got the premium, I would have .05 in my account. I spent $30.00 to get the darn thing. So then he tells me that they charge 4.95 per month. What the heck, there goes 4.95 right off the top. But all in all I think it will be worth it so I can pay my bills online. I don't like regular credit cards, I like the idea that I can pay as I go even if it's going to cost me 4.95 a month.

I have only had one credit card that cost me a annual premium and that was the card I established credit with. After one year of using that card I closed the account and destroyed the card. From that time forward I have never kept a single credit card that cost me any money. Ever! In fact that only cards I use regularly pay me money for using them. I carry balances on two credit cards but they are both 0% interest as long as I make minimum payments, which I always make more then the minimum as they record and rate you based on if you pay minimum or more then minimum. Those two different levels effect your credit score therefore I will always pay at least one dollar more then the minimum for the positive benefit on my credit score.
Other wise the cards I reach for in my wallet are the ones that pay me money for using them and those cards I always pay the entire balance off every month.
If you do these things you will never have a problem buying a house of getting credit for things you need in life.

Good advise Real only I don't care about having credit much anymore. My kids are going to have to take care of me the rest of my life and they know it. I took care of them all these years and now they have brought little extensions of themselves into this world for me to take care of. Not to mention all the animals THEY rescued by bringing them to my house because they didn't want the mess and hassle at theirs. They have taken advantage of me because I let them bring tons and tons of stuff into my basement for me to deal with because they were moving or had no room. Then they come to get it, only they leave the crap they don't want. Then they tell me I can have it. Ha,ha like I want more stuff.
So, ya, my brats are going to take care of me, maybe even change my diapers.

I had a prepaid credit card at one point. it was called Green Dot. Same deal 9.95 to activate it and a 4.95 a month charge. I think in my opinon it is completely worthless. having a Bank account has more value than these things do. My advice.. get a bank account.. if you cant find out why and fix it. I just did and I am ever so happy about it :)

I never pay credit card interest because of the way that I use them. Like I posted, I carry balances on two cards but both of those cards are at 0% interest.
So what I am saying is that it is possible to have and use credit without paying for the service. If you are real responsible about how you use it.

You sure are paying a lot of money for a convenience I get for free. I am sorry about that. It just takes careful management of finances to establish and responsibly use credit.
I agree with you about being tied down my a mortgage. I am and I admit I don't like it. But on the other hand I am building up equity that will come in handy later in life. The upkeep thing is a problem I so don't enjoy either. But some of it has to be done.
Your landlord is making money off you. If I had more money I might be a landlord but I would defiantly pay someone else to do the upkeep as I hate it. But until then I will have to suck it up and do some work.

I don't have any other credit cards either. I had one years ago and learned my lesson. If I don't have the cash I don't need it. My problem is I have no credit. Not that I think I will ever buy a house or anything. I'm happy renting, that way I don't have a mortgage to tie me down and I don't have to worry about the upkeep. I like the idea of the pre-paid card so I can pay my bills fast online. I wouldn't mind establishing some credit in the mean time. I like the idea that I have to pay first.

You should see if this counts towards your credit rating. If you have a bad one make sure it does. Otherwise that $4.95 per month you're spending isn't really doing anything for you. You may as well have it count towards something.
Yes, regular credit cards can cause trouble. People think of them as income and don't realise what they are truly meant for.

It's a matter of what you are comfortable with. I think pre paid cards can be a little limiting, as far as renting cars or hotel rooms, etc. But, in the end if it increases your credit rating and all the other benefits that having a credit card gives, then do what you have to do.

Lol, I won't be renting a car or a room. I will just be using it online. I'm not used to having a credit card so for the most part will have money in it all the time because I'll forget I have it.

I have several of these cards and they are invaluable. You can load them all over the place and they are just a much smarter way to go for saving and carrying cash. They are the same as cash at any retailer and a lot safer than carrying cash. I always use the example to my friends "if you drop $1000 in a strip club do you think you would get it back, a card with a $1000 on it looks just like a card with $10 on it and since they can't use it most people will return it to you. Even if they don't you cancel it and get a new one but your money is safe in cyberspace."

Awww, I can't believe they charge you. I had a gift card from discover and I was able to add to it when it would get low. That urks me that they charge you for something you are paying in advance for. But for a person that doesn't like the regular credit card, I think that will suit you, then.

i hope things are never bad till you are able to manage them. so you amy like the idea as far as you are able to manage that 4.95 a month. but cards chage too heavily once you forget to pay them their monthly charges. so remember that thing always. moreover, sometimes they had a lot of hidden cost that you are likely to miss in case you are not pretty aware.

I don't have this type. I have regular one. What I hate most is these credit cards company keep sending me the application to apply for one. I hate credit cards. Whatever you do, never get a household credit card (HSBC). They are terrible. I don't have one but my parents do.

No I have never used a pre-paid credit cards, they are always up to scamming more money out of people and trying to take more money from people, but $4.95 a month seems ok better than the normal credit card, I think that the pre-paid credit card would be a lot better than paying the normal credit card.

Ive never used them before but i was thinking about it just because i have bad credit so its really not an option for me to have a regular credit card. I like the idea too that you cant spend whats not on there as well, i really dont like credit cards but there have been some good deals on the internet that ive passed up because i dont have one so im starting to think about it but im not sure if ill go that route or if ill go to a secured card, thanks for the heads up that there might be a couple hidden charges in there though, ill make sure to check out the find print before i make a choice +

You might want to try getting the "American Express" and other gift cards they sell at stores, I don't think they charge those types of fees and you can use them online, actually I got one from my work as an award and had no problems doing those things and had no fees.

I have never used any prepaid card. It ends up costing more than it is worth.
I don't like using ordinary credit cards either.
I prefer to pay cash or use my debit card which I have a seperate bank account for so that I have my savings in another account without risking losing money.
That way I just put money into that account only when I need to pay for something via my debit card.
The less paperwork to process the better.

Most prepaid credit cards from reputable companies have the one time purchase, then they have a per use fee plus interest, just like a regular card. They should be open for use at stores, ATM's etc right from the git go.
If it says prepaid it is most likely going to cost you more than what is termed a secured card...A secured card is simply a card you draw on deposits made to an account, then make payments as though it were a regular card, including interest.
If you are satisfied with the current contract by all means continue with it as is...if not look into secured cards at your local banks.
