We have two female kittens and they are around 10 months old. Someone had thrown them out along the road and my sister brought them to live with my family. I don't know their exact age. We are planning on getting them spayed but are waiting to get the money to do so. They are strictly inside cats that do not go outside at all. Over the past couple of weeks they have been making a strange screeching noise. I have never had cats before so I do not know if this is normal. They do this all night long. Has anyone else experienced this with your cats?

it's normal.. It means they are in heat. We have 2 cats with us and this is also the first time that i had a cat coz i'm a dog lover. Anyways, i was also scared and feel pity for them on what they are feeling. I have the same female because i don't want to them to multiply...there are some medicine, it's like a pills that you will ask them to take that will avoid them feeling the heat. I have read it in some articles but you should ask your vet about it.

Thank you for your response. I have never heard of a pill that you could give them. I will have to look that up but I am going to get them spayed soon.

So sad the way some people treat animals. It breaks my heart. Thank the good Lord for people like you and your sister. Maybe they are stressed out right now. Or, maybe they are in heat already. You might want to check with the vet. Good luck dear, and bless you

Definately in heat. Does anywhere near you have low cost or free spay/neuter? A lot of shelters and vets offer it these days.

Thank you both for responding. I think there is a program locally that offers low cost spaying. I am going to call around to find something. If we don't qualify I will have to wait until February to get them both spayed. They don't go outside at all so that is a good thing.

They are in heat. Watch out for them to start spraying attract males. Unless you want kittens be very careful when goes to go outside because they will do their best to get out I understand what you are going through because I have a female cat who has not been spay. When she's in heat it sounds like a banshee screeching. Usually their cycles run nine days on nine days off. But every cat so you might be lucky and it isn't so often. Good luck!

Along with the other person who posted I will state it sounds like they are in heat. I know when they are screeching that way they sound like Banshes, in fact a few of ours have been nickednamed that until we got them fixed.
If you are short on money and want to get them fixed check with the Humane Society to see if they offer something or check to see if you have something like P.A.W.S. in your area that does low cost vaccination and spay/nuetering. For those in the US you can call either of these numbers: 1-800-248- Spay or 1-800-321-Pets, to find out about low cost spay/nuetering in your area.
Good luck with the kitties.

Here is a clinic that offers low cost spaying in your area. Tri-State Animal Clinic of Huntington, 3327 US Route 60 Huntington, WV 25705 (304) 525-8387.
I believe that is not too far from you. Cats are usually much cheaper to alter than dogs. I would give them a call, sometimes they will work with you or point you in the right direction for your needs. They all want to get them spayed because of the extreme over population of uncared for animals. Good luck and take care

Thank you for your response. I will try calling some of the places in my area to see if they offer low cost spaying. Thanks for the info on the one in Huntington but it is 3 hours from me. I hadn't checked with any of the veterinary clinics to see if they have any kind of programs like that. I know they will be getting spayed by February at the latest.

Yeah they are definately in heat. It is perfectly normal. As far as getting them fixed I have 2 kittens as well but mine are only 13weeks old. I am gettingthem fixed and shots in February by a traveling vet van. They are certified vets and you receive the paperwork that state that they have there shots and have been fixed. This "van" does this for a cheaper price than going to a regular vet's office. Here is the toll free number to see if they are available in your area or at least can give you info for your area as to where you can still get vet quality shots and fixed for a reduced price. 1-888-for-team that is 1-888-367-8326
Hope this helps.

I would definately say that they're in heat. My guess is that that's why the person got rid of them. You're lucky they're not pregnant already since they were drop-offs. Good luck with getting them spayed.

Thank you for your response. They were just tiny when I found them. I would guess they had just been taken from the mother maybe 6 weeks old.

Thank you for responding. I have to agree with everyone especially after reading all the signs. I also want to thank you for your previous response too. I don't think some people even read the discussions before responding.

Around 10 months? They could be in heat. My female cat started around a year old, but that is only a 2 month difference from your cats.
Have you noticed any other signs? My female cats would stick their butts in the air and just make these awful long screeching sound. It didn't go on all the time. It was more of a hit and miss thing.
Plus they left a smell, a nasty smell, kind of like a skunk smell.
Should go away once they are fixed.

Thank you for your response. I think they are around 10 months they could be older. I picked them up from the side of the road so their age is a mystery. They are having alot of the signs that people have posted. They will be spayed soon.

better to take the kittens to some doctor because usually cats don make any noise ,it may be due to some problem with the cats....

When my cat's in heat, she is one scary cat! She hates my dog usually and when she's in heat, she loves to lay with him and roll around on the carpet begging for his attention. It's the only time they get along so while her dragging her hiney across the floor and constant meowing is annoying, it's nice to have some peace in the house! ;)
If they are in heat, it will pass within a week or two. If not and if it ends up being something else, a trup to the vet might be in order. You also might want to take them anyway since they might needs shots since you mentioned you found them outside. Good luck!

It means they are having their first menstral cycle. this usually happens between 10-12 months old. Now would be a good time to get them spayed.

Hi - you should also check out your local PDSA vet clinic as they do free treatments for people on benefits or low income, if that's any help. Well done you for rescuing them! May they bring you much joy and pleasure.
Also, it might be worth looking in your local library for some cat behaviour books....I have a couple and they're fascinating. Tells you why they bring mice in to you and present you with them, why they sometimes sit with their backs to you, why they always go to the person who doesn't want them to go to him/her...etc. I'd recommend any Desmond Morris ones.....think there's one called Cat Watching.
Good luck.

totally normal. Especially this time of year. They are in heat. It is awful sounding and only gets worse. For a lot oc cats this could last up to a week and could repeat every month. Dealing with the noise is much worse for you than the cat. They are not in pain. I would recommend them getting fixed asap! A lot of clinics will do it for a very low cost and probably give you a discount for having two. Good luck!
