My favorite book is American Gods. I haven't been fortunate enough to read many of his graphic novels. I just read Violent Cases over the weekend and it just didn't impact me emotionally. I loved Coraline, and I'm excited it's been made into a film, as is Stardust. But of all his works, my very favorite is actually a short story from the Smoke and Mirrors anthology called Troll Bridge.

I've been looking for a copy of Smoke and Mirrors, but it's not available in the bookstore close to where I live. I have to get myself one for christmas. Thanks for reminding me. :-)
American Gods was great. Most of the characters from that book (the deities mostly) appeared in the Sandman series, too. The central concept of the book is actually a spin off from a Sandman premise (one of Gaiman's cryptic truths) -- that gods die when people stop believing in them.
You really should check out the Sandman. I will not attempt to describe the series here (too many websites have already done that), because I know that I cannot do this great work of art justice. To appreciate the profundity of Sandman, one must experience it. Not read it. Experience it.
And speaking of movies, I recently heard that there's a movie deal for Good Omens as well. Have you read Good Omens? It's absolutely hilarious.

I did watch Mirror Mask. The scene where the clockwork dolls were transforming the main character into the princess really got to me. The song they sang was a favorite of mine when I was a tiny girl. I never realized how creepy it could be.
I really enjoy all of Neil Gaiman's work and have even had some of his Sandman characters show up in my dreams.
I also had a chance to listen to an online audio story of his: Snow Glass Apples. (I hope I'm remembering it correctly.) It was the creepiest version of Snow White I've ever heard of. Told from the point to view of the step-mother.

I love Neverwhere and Stardust. Although Coraline will forever be held in my heart as the first children's books that creeped me out hahaha! The thought of the fake mother was just too much, with her long pointed fingers and button ezes. And take note, I read it when I was 21 years old already. I can only imagine my fright had the book been available when I was a kid.
Try to get The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish. In Manila, it comes with an audio version, and illustrated by (of course) Dave McKean. And see if you can get MirrorMask as well. I saw the movie and it was very nice.

The Sandman graphic novels are definitely my favorite of Neil Gaiman's books. If I had to choose a more traditional book, though, I think Neverwhere is my favorite, followed closely by Stardust.

I read the Sandman graphic novels and loved them. I've even got some of the actual comics. I'm not that keen on his novels, not sure why as the stories are well written and imaginative.
