Do Saddam Hussain Really deserve to be hanged ?

I have heard and read in books from my childhood that a King/Ruler shuold be treated like a King whether he is on ruling seat or a prisoner of war . I dont know much about Saddam Hussain ,other than that he was ruler of Iraq and he was cruel to a particular community and kind to a particular community.Thats what the ruler used to be , they do many good and bad things to save their seat. Only Thing which is coming inmy mind is that do he really deserve to be hanged ? or some other punishment ?
