Guppy - Guppy
There was a nice aquarium where I worked last year, but it didn't need a lot of maintenance. Just feeding the fish, adding water and cleaning from time to time. There were mainly guppies.

this might help you buddy The best formula for successful fish keeping is to keep a regular maintenance schedule. This must be habitual, either weekly or bi-weekly. Wastes accumulate continuously. Remove as much as possible at every cleaning. At the same time remove some old water and replace with dechlorinated tap water. Weekly maintenance includes algae removal from inside glass surfaces. Use an approved algae cleaning pad so as not to scratch the glass. Clean the gravel using a properly sized Hagen Gravel Cleaner or Multi-Vac. Drain about 10% - 20% of the water. Unplug all electrical accessories before placing hands in the aquarium or prior to removing water. NEVER take out all the water and clean the entire tank; the biological filtration will be destroyed. Be sure to replace any water you remove with properly conditioned and dechlorinated water. Replacement water should be the same temperature as the aquarium. Drastic temperature change causes stress and disease. Filter media should be checked and regularly changed as required. Leave some old media in the filter to promote bacterial population of the new media. Don't change both foam and charcoal insert at the same time. It is much better to change them on alternating weeks, rather than putting all new media in the filter. Changing too many things at once may result in having to biologically restart the aquarium. After the water change and filter media have been changed, add the weekly dosage of Cycle to the filter intake or simply add to the aquarium. When reconnecting electrical items, check that the temperature is correct. It is a good idea to check temperature regularly to be sure that the heater has been supplying consistent heat to the aquarium. It is wise to place your hand on the glass every time you check the thermometer. This will give you a "feel" for the temperature as well. Be sure all other electrical items are working properly. Hey dat sounds interesting..here are some tips. 1)Do not put a burning stove below the aquarium if the climate is cold. 2)Do not wash your dog in the aquarium 3) Never add toilet cleaning acid to the the aquarium water to keep it clean. 4) Do not carry the aquarium for an evening walk. 5) keep it out of the reach of your pet cat. 6) Do not clean your aquarium with all the fishes in it.

These directions are for cleaning a freshwater tank - not a salt water tank. Leave the fish in the tank - it won't hurt them! Remove all the fake plants and ornaments. Put those in a solution of 1 gallon warm water and 1/4 cup bleach. Let them soak. Stir up the gravel to loosen all the junk. Next you need to remove 1/3 to 1/2 of the water - no more than that. you can do this by using a suction hose or a container of some sort. Scrub the side of the tank with a algae scrubber or a washcloth to remove the film from the inside of the tank. Go back to the ornaments and plants. Rinse them VERY well! If there is a residue left on them, it could harm teh fish. Once rinsed, place back in the tank. Refill the tank with water about the same temp as what is already in there. Not too cold or hot or it will shock the fish. Now you can wipe the outside of the tank with a cloth. Whatever you do, do not use any chemicals in, on, or around the tank. It will harm the fish. Windex is actually lethal!

aquarium - aquarium
A wide variety of aquaria are now kept by hobbyists, ranging from a simple bowl housing a single fish to complex simulated ecosystems with carefully engineered support systems. Aquaria are usually classified as containing fresh water or salt water and brackish water, at tropical or cold water temperatures. These characteristics, and others, determine the type of fish and other inhabitants that can survive and thrive in the aquarium. Inhabitants for aquaria are often collected from the wild, although there is a growing list of organisms that are bred in captivity for supply to the aquarium trade.

i Have an aquarium from the last four years. The way i meaintain is that change the water every month, and do the service after every second month. But if you have a filter, the change the water after 2 months and Service it after 6 months. But keep cleaning the filter once in 15 days. If you have a very large filter than i t may go upto 30 days. Whenever servicing, keep in note that fish should be in water out side the aquarium, do not service it with the fish inside the water. This is how i did it. And also use heater for cold weather. Some fish are cold blooded but the others may die because of the temperature.

do a 20%-30% waterchange at least once or twice a week, do not overfeed and your fish should be healthy.
