My does it get Dark and Cold sometimes

I have learned something recently. Seattle area was hit last Thursday December 14th with a Severe Wind storm. It was No Fun at all. We were without Power for like 2 days here.. or 3 nights total, and it was COLD. I was without Internet access for 5 days. Talk about withdrawals. But I have learned something. Never take things for granted. You never know when something or someone could come a long and change your world. Even if it is for a Short interim time, it is worth remembering and knowing to appreciate what you have, as things could always be worse than what they are. They are comparing our recent Storm to the people from New Orleans who were in Hurricane Katrina. Even though for most people, it was nothing like what they people there have had to endure, it was still a Bad one for us. People had to learn how to live all over again, and move on. Many have lost $100s of dollars worth of food, and such, and some even lost a lot of material items as well. Yes, we still have a lot of people without Power even still. It has not been Pretty. But what I have lost in material things, only makes me Glad things were only what they were for me. At least I have a Roof over my head to come home too, and Health, and a life I can still call my own. It only continues to tell me that life is worth living, and no matter what we go thru, we need to learn to live life one day at a time, and you never know when it could be your last, so live each day to the fullest, and Praise God for what he has given you today.

You are right KrauseHome in that although you have lost some material things you are alive, okay and doing fine plus you can always replace those material things if you feel that they ae necessary. Being without power can be rather awful, depending on where you are etc. The longest we have been without power in recent times was about 5 years ago and it was off for about 14 hours, unfortunately it was summer and really hot. Quite honestly, I am not sure what would be worse, losing power in winter when the days are shorter and colder or in the summer when the days are much longer and hotter. I do hope that all is well and that life returns to normal for everyone in your very soon. :)

Yes well spoken. I hope everything gets back to normal for you. Isnt it a shame when hit with a tragety will then appreciate what we have and are grateful for having it. Alot of us just take everything for granted. Best of luck to you

That was quite a storm that hit Seattle last week and glad it was not any worse than it was. Have they said when power would be completely restored there? I am sure people were glad that it was not worse. Losing food and material things are replaceable but human life is not replaceable. I agree that we need to live life one day at a time. Great statement that you made here.

Well, I know there are still some areas last I heard that may get their power restored today or tomorrow if they are lucky. And to top it off, they are predicting another Wind storm maybe soon, and such... so who knows really what is in store for this Winter here.

While I don't envy you your loss of power, I DO wish for some of your cold here. We have the air conditioning on right now. There is a tiny chance of snow in the pre-dawn hours of the 25th, but it won't stick.

Come August, I'll be wanting to join you up there though. Now I understand why "snowbirds" migrate.

The old folks use to say, 'count your blessings'. The saying seems a little impersonal but if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. If we spend just a little more time thinking about the positives in our lives, I think it helps insulate and fortify us for those times [and there will always be those challenging down times]when everything seems to be going oh..so..wrong. I am so sorry to hear about the outage and the difficult time you and your family endured. I have experienced outages but never, never that long. I hope you and family are both recovering, and moving on from the event.

It scares me how dependent we are on electricity. Years ago we lost our electricity durung a snow storm in Nebraska. We at least had heat. Our stove was natural gas. It had a fan to desperse the heat, but ran with out the fan kept the house fairly warm. Now all heating stove and cook stove must have electricity to turn on.

My good friend in Newcastle is one of the ones who's still without power. Wednesday night and STILL no power! I'd go nuts. I'm moving up there on Monday and this is what I have to look forward to?? AAAAAHHH!! Of course, I heard it's the worst they've had in a long time and it's usually not that bad, but still... Plus, I hear there's another storm headed there tonight. Winds up to 55mph. OY! Craziness. I just hope it all calms down by the time I get up there.

It's not too bad here in the midwest, we're getting a lot of rain right now, but I hear it's really nasty out by the Denver area. I heard that basically all the major highways are shut down, and even the Denver Nuggets NBA game was postponed. Hopefully it doesn't get us here.. I'll take rain any day!

Oh!God! So sorry to hear the attack of storm, and so pleased to see you here posting the message! That's really unlucky and lucky. yes, it is enough to be alive! All other things has gone, but they can be got again, while it is not the case for life. I have not experienced a storm before, but I have seen a movie on this issue. It's really terrible, sometimes I think why God gives so many disasters to human beings? Human beings is so tiny when facing the nature and universe, is there a strength to give them protection? God is not the one?? Ok, it means all to possess life! Have a good day! good luck to u! God bless to all in Seattle!

My power was knocked out from the same wind storm too! I live in bc though. It was horrible. I was so cold for 2 days. We had to heat the house with the fire place which meant that we all had to sleep around the fire because we have a small fire place.

Well first off I am sorry to hear about this storm that hit you. I hope everything is alright now. I am a victim of HURRICANE KATRINA. Even though I was not on the side of the river where it got flooded I still got it pretty bad. I live on the westbank of New Orleans and the part that got flooded was the east bank. I stayed for the hurricane and it was so scary, I cried. We were without electricity for 2 months and had no stores or ANYTHING around us open. We had to depend on redcross and the others that came down her to help us. I was so exited when we got electricity back and things started to open around here. Iv'e learned alot from this experience and alot of my views have changed on life. I will keep seattle and all the others that were affected in my prayers.
