Manmohan Singh is the 17th and current Prime Minister of India. He is considered to be one of the most qualified and influential figures in India's recent history, because of the economic liberalisation he started in 1991 when he was Finance Minister.[1] He was born on 26 September 1932, in Gah, West Punjab (now in Pakistan) and is a member of the Indian National Congress party. The first Sikh to become prime minister of India, Singh was sworn in on May 22, 2004.
