books are limited by the amount of pages, The internet isn't.
Try to go to some forum where programmers give some code examples and explain them.
Books are a nice way to learn the basics but they never go very far, but on forum they teach you a lot more like how to customize a window or create your own specially set up by yourself ones.
Also go to many different forum because sometimes it is difficult to understand a subject and one person can explain better than another.
There you can also ask for help.
But for books, try "Sams Teach Yourself" series of books.
I learned the basics of java 2 from "Sams Teach Yourself java 2 in 21 days" but don't go for the Sams in 24 hours, they have too little information to be worth it.

every books are good , for learning c languages , let us c, code in c, deitel and deital, complete reference to c and c++ ... are good books,
one more thing IF YOU WANT TO GET GOOD BOOKS OF SPECIFIC TOPIC AND YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT BOOKS, JUST GO FOR "SCHAMUS SERIES BOOKS" if that tpic is publised in schaums series , that book will be the best book for that topic.
