I think that it can, at least to the point where everyone has enough to survive in a reasonable degree of comfort.
It will take a lot of work and dedication by all of us, and will be stopped at every turn by those who hold faith in scarcity, who believe that there is not enough for everyone.

I don't think everyone can be exactly equal, so those at the bottom will technically still be in a condition of poverty compared to others. Can hunger and homeless be erased? I think so, but it would require everyone to help, and the leaders of countries to to focus on the needy, instead of stealing from them.

I think, as long as you have money, poverty is going to be a fact of life. Because there's no way to correct it.
If you give the poor more money, you create inflation and their money buys less so they stay poor.
