Okay, I have a serious phobia of talking to strangers on the phone. I agreed to do some calling for the place I volunteer, and I can get about five done before my heart starts palpitating. Does anyone else experience this? Anyone else have wierd phobias?

I'm totally with you on this one. I just have a fear of not knowing what to say to people whether it be on the phone or not. I don't have many friends because of it. I am much more open on the internet than I am in real life. Its weird I know. If I could change it, I definately would.

I, too, am much more open on the internet. There is a certain safety behind it.

I agree, I can be whoever I want to be on the internet. It is almost like a sense of freedom in a way.

Well, I can get anxious about certain situations, at times, for instance, if I'm at a new place and am uncertain of what I should be doing... I also get a little anxious if I see stray dogs, because one dog tried to bite my leg once, when I was just walking down the street, minding my own business. Are you anxious when talking to strangers in person too?

Not as much, that is the wierd part. I would rather go up and talk to a person face-to-face, because that way I can read body language and facial expressions too.

Well, that's a bit strange... but I suppose not being able to see the other person could create some anxiety. If it's interfering with your daily life, then I'd see a professional about this. If not, maybe try to talk on the phone as much as possible, maybe you'll get the hang of it and lose your fear.

i havent got any phobias like that but may i suggest trying to see a therapist or someone who is trained in helping phobia sufferers, to help you work out why you may have it or at least possibly help you get through it...feeling like that for whatever reason is never a great thing and ive found counsellors and therapists help heaps...or even try hypnosis..it works for some good luck

Hmm, that is good advice. I have grown up with an anti-doctor mentality (not a phobia, just not needed), so it doesn't occur to me that maybe I should get real help. Thank you!
