Have you ever been in a long distance relationship? If so, how long did it last? Do you recommend others against it?

Yes I have been in a long distance relationship, approximately 8,000 miles!
It lasted for just over a year and then we got married :)
I would never recommend against it, but those in the relationship must be very very committed to it for it to work.

if you really want to try a long distance relationship, the key to making it work is communication. since you won't be able to see each other often you have to talk and not always on the phone. utilize instant messenger, emails and text messenger. don't go more than 2 to 3 days without some sort of communication. when you can't talk a quick 'hi, how are you" goes a long way. relationships are much easier to maintain when you are in the same area. long distant relationships take a lot of creativity, especially when you can't see each other every week.

Hasn't worked for me.
You have to be VERY committed and loyal and responsible.
And you have to be able to see a future with that person too.
It's not for everyone.
