Either my top lip or bottom lip will swell all of a sudden for no apparent reason. Does anyone else have this problem? I thought maybe it was a food allergy, but I'm not eating anything different than I ever have. I don't take meds and eat basically healthy. No idea what could cause this.

I am surprised to see this post. This has happened to me; only about three or four times in my life though. I happens for no apparent reason either. The times it has happened, I was taking a hot shower. By the time I get out of the shower, I could feel my bottom lip starting to swell. It only last a few days. I have no idea what it is or why it is, but at least now I am not alone.

It's happened to me about 8 times within a couple months period of time. Now that I'm looking back it was pretty hot weather and I'd wet my lips and sometimes my teeth would scratch my lips and POOF! they swelled and lasted for a few hours at a time. I started taking an anti-histamine when it happened...sometimes it helped and others it didn't. Really strange. Thanks for responding.

It is due to an allergy. People can be allergic all of a sudden to very common things as well. Once my daughter touched an acrilic garment and started getting red patches. My bro gets swelling lips occasionally. So be very careful and see to what you are allergic. It can be serious as well. Take care.

That's definitely a food allergy. My husband's grandmother's hands would swell up if she even touched a crab. Weirdest part of that is her husband was a fisherman and potted crabs for years and she'd help him blanch them. All of a sudden in her 60's she started swelling any part of the body that touched one or even came near it.
