Have you ever wondered how different the anatopeyas for animal sounds are in different countries/languages/cultures? mmm probably no, neither do I. But I find it interesting. Here there are a few examples.
Chicken:
Spanish: kikirikí
English: cock-a-doodle-doo
French: cocorico
Korean: kko-kki-yo
Portuguese (portugal): cocorococo
Russian: ku-ka-re-ku
Cat:
Spanish: miau
English: meow
French: miaou
Korean: (n)ya-ong
Greek: niaou
Dog:
Spanish: guau guau
English: bow wow, arf, woof, ruff ruff
French: ouah ouah
Portuguese: au au
Korean: mung-mung
Frog:
Spanish (Spain): cruá-cruá
Spanish (Argentina): berp
Spanish (Peru): croac, croac
Japanese: kerokero
Korean: gae-gool-gae-gool
