Oh! I am broken hearted that you would think I eat my young... I do understand what you mean though. My whole outlook on caring for patients changed after a few pretty bad illnesses ended my in hospitalon various occaissions. I have been submitted to a range of treatments and proceedures. I found that some Drs and nurses treated you worse if they knew you were a nurse. They usually left me to my own devices (not good idea when I was quite ill) or didn't believe me when I said a IV was tissued or I needed different pain meds.
Not too good on either side sometimes.

I have been a patient many times. And you are right, they do treat you differently if they find out you have any kind of medical knowledge what so ever. Some treat you worse, some don't.

Over here in india mostly i hate them cause they are busy chit chatting with their co workers rather than attending a patient or someone who is not keepin well. I hate these kind of people who leave their work and they are busy in their own world.

Our Doctor is ALWAYS late and so now at the time of the appointment I telephone the surgery and ask how late he will be. They girls then get the card out and give us an idea of the time, so seldom do we wait more than 10 minutes once we arrive. This is a hard one actually, as I would rather have to wait to see a good Doctor than get straight into one who is perhaps not so good. We are prepared to wait to see our Doctor too, because in an emergency he will see us immediately. I figure that if he keeps patients waiting for us, then it is only fair that sometimes we have to wait while he sees another emergency patient.
Nurses are not all trained at University rather than through the hospital system which means some of them lack compassion. Sure they have all the paper qualifications but no hands on experience plus they no longer have to do the "menial" type of work. Some are good but others are just awful. Again, give me an older nurse any day, that is the ones who did their training on the job.
I also believe it should be mandatory for every Doctor and Nurse to be an inpatient in a Hospital for at least 1 week twice a year, so they learn what it is like to be a patient. LOL

At least having been an inpatient plus the experience with your own daughter, you know what it is like. Not all Doctors and nurses do though, and it can really be quite annoying. At least they no longer wake up at 6.00 for the morning cuppa or at 10.00 p.m. to give you a sleeping tablet, because the Doctor has prescribed them for you. Yes, those certainly were the days. LOL

ohhhhhhhhh, some still wake you for that sleeping pill! Thing is they shouldn't give it to you until midnight. That way us night nurses can do our job! what is a "cuppa" at 6 am. Is that coffee?

I understand about waiting for doctors, and not wanting to wait! I also agree about being an inpatient ...but I have been a patient a couple of times. As my daughter has as well!

I agree and it is ashame that doctors rush through their appointments.
I will be a doctor myself in June and I can tell you some of the reasons why this happens.
It's not because we want to rush with the patients. It is because medical insurances are not reimbursing as much as they used to. in addition, there are so many lawsuits today that for doctors to pay their malpractice premiums they are often paying $100,000 a year, and it's higher for surgeons and specialists.
Unfortunately, we are forced then to overbook and overwork ourselves in an effort to make ends meet.
And it's very sad for both the patient and the doctor, the patients deserve quality care and the doctor wants to give it, hell, this is why we went to medical school, unfortunately the healthcare system in this country is horrible right now and it is making things very difficult for everyone.
Sorry to ramble so long but I think this is an important issue, and that people should get to see it from the other side...doctors are not out to get you by any means.

well, you may care, but there are alot of doctors that do not care. Hence, I am pretty heartless when one mentions malpractice liability insurance. My daughter went years for speech therapy, when in fact she should have had surgery!!! That isn't rushing around ...that is neglect on the pediatricians part. He sent me to one ent, and one things weren't improving, he dared to question why!!!

It doesn't bother me when they rush me out... I don't want to be there most of the time anyway! But what bugs me is when they make you wait over an hour even though you have a scheduled time. If they are rushing everyone out like they rush me out, then how come I had to wait so long? It doesn't make sense.

Well right now you may be heartless when you hear about malpractice insurance, but I'll tell you one thing. Here in Philadelphia it has gotten so bad that in such a big city as Philadelphia there are only a couple hospitals left that deliver babies.
There are only a couple neurosurgeons left in the area. They are all leaving. Maybe you're lucky enough not to live somewhere like this, but you might rethink your opinion when there isn't even an ENT to go to.

Most doctors on a insurance time schedule, and don't really listen to you. Nurses work harder than doctors, and I have nothing I dislike about them.

My biggest gripe with doctors are the ones who don't listen to you.Sometimes we, as non-medical people know more about what is going on in our bodies than they do. I have a wonderful GP now who listens and acts accordingly.
I haven't had too many problems with nurses - only the one who came in and asked, "Why are you starving your baby!" It was my first - very much loved and very much longed for - baby. I didn't know that his nappies weren't wet enough and that my milk hadn't come in. How would I know?? Apart from that mostly my experiences with nurses have been good.

ugh! that nurse should have been shot! why are some professionals so damn stupid. On behalf of all nurses, sorry you ended up with a stupid insensitive one. Instead of saying that she should have been more supportive of you.
I'm glad you have a good gp. So how is the baby? How old?

The waiting room is often the worst part for me. I make an appointment for a certain time and cannot be five minutes late but then I get to sit and wait for an hour or so? I've had good dr.s that will explain things in layman's terms and others that don't take the time to explain. Waiting is the worst part for me

ya, the waiting part is hard, esp when you show up on time, and they are an hour or two behind.

I hate them b/c of long wait times also. I mean I make an appointment for 3:30, I arrive at 3:25... and sit and wait til almost 4 or later. Then they sit me in a room, and make me wait another half hour saying "the doctor will be right with you".
Now I know a doctor cannot predict how long every appointment is going to take, but they should ask ahead of time. My doctor just makes appointments and they don't ask what for, so when you arrive, the person before you may have been in there for an extra hour because it was some big deal. I don't know if that makes sense or not but basically, they should schedule appointments based on what you need.
If I made people wait a half hour or more in my job, my boss and the person would be furious! Yet doctors can make you wait b/c they know there's not much you can do about it... usually there aren't many other doctors in your area.

I agree whole heartedly....while I have to work with doctors, office visits are a little much. I usually don't have to wait too long, but with an old pediatrician of ours, I had to wait an hour!!! It was ridiculous.

my kids pediatrician does that sometimes when the office is very full. She will rush and try to hurry up.That is their job.My son gets bad headaches and it took 4 visits for her to realize this child needs to be referred to a neurologist.I am really considering changing doctors.

Yes sometimes the doctor not understood my situation, in fact I was waiting long to be able to be checked, was annoying, possibly if I did not need for my maintenance did not want to the doctor again
