It's important to understand the truths of God's word, but how do we start?

what's important is whether or not you believe he did. absolute total blind faith is the key to religion. so in conclusion, i don't know if you can or should or are even supposed to trust or believe everything the bible has to offer. but if you read it one day and the stories speak to you then go ahead and give faith a try. besides, everyone needs something to believe in right?

First we have to read it like you read an ordinary book and read it literally. Some people are fond of putting meanings to words and they always take if figuratively.(although some words in the Bible are written in figurative language) Reading something into it is different than reading something out of it. I believe that the Bible was written to be understood and not to create confusion. Join Bible studies with different friends who believe in what the Bible says. It is not necessary to read it from cover to cover, you might want to start in the Gospels which are easy to understand then go back to historical books or prophecies. And yes, use a translation in modern english and always ask for guidance and wisdom as you read. Seek and you will find, ask and it will be given to you.

I agree with manong05. The best way is to get a bible that is in plain english and ask for God to enlighten you as you read. Always ask God to clear up any confusion or misinterpretation. But do get started. Our Lord is waiting to work in us.

I had already read the Bible but sadly say, it was not a success to understand it all. But my co-church told me, that, to start a prayer, asking for wisdom and openness, before reading the lines. and then i do it, but then the result is the same. Until such time as i go along with my life, somewhat when there some big things was happening to me, i always got to remember some of the Bible's verse, even i don't remember what book, chapter or verse it was. It always turn out when i encounter some situation which is likely i thought i had encountered before but the truth is, i remembered, it was from the story in the bible which is most the same in what is going on that time. And then i realize, wisdom only comes if both brain and heart are pour with learnings. Prayer is the key to put the words of Bible into the heart and for it to remain, until such times it will automatically goes out into your heart and goes up into your brain and circulates around your blood and becomes a part of yourself which make you understand it's message not only it's literal meaning, but also it's pure purpose and reason why Jesus said this or did this, etc.. But a great factor is having faith with Him and never hesitate to believe that God has a good purpose to all of us. We certainly cannot understand all that is in the Bible, but what's important is it was been deposited to ourselves until it would come the time it will be withdrawed and now, can be used as wisdom. Truly read and analyze teh Bible. Read what historians and other scholars have researched and learned about the Bible. And don't take it literally, that is the mistake many people do. It is a work of literature. Enjoy it for what it is
