hi
let me know what is the error message is it displaying on the screen?...
when we use windows xp with service pack2,the error usually occurs is mup.sys at this the system freezes.
we can come to know about this if we start the computer with command prompt.
restart your system insert xp bootable cd and check out bios settings, change the boot device to CD-rom and start booting with tht CD..
definately it will work.. format ur C DRIVE and re install fresh copy of windows xp.
if any problem persists let me know so that i can help u soon..

I could be a virus you know. I once had a friend which had her computer infected by MSBlast, a very dangerous worm/virus (I'm not sure what it is). If you have an anti virus program, than you should update it and run a scan. If it's not a virus, than at least write about that error message: what does it say?

A little bit late myself, but I have to say that rebooting can easily be done either by the disk or the cd entered.

According to me the system files must be currupt try installing a fresh copy of Windows Xp or try using the repair option while you enter the format menu. This is going to work if not the windows cd will be currupt. if this is the problem email me i will send you a copy of windows xp
