intelligent conversation

Do you sometimes get the feeling taht people will respond to a discussion that doesn't necessarily generate intelligent conversation - only to get responses?
And a topic that really warrants discussion gets nothing because it requires too much thought!!!
Is it just me or do you feel this too?
