I've learned to use computer and use some of its applications just when i was in College and all of it were Commercial Softwares and mostly from Microsoft* - the well known provider of computer software applications and operating system in my country. Later, I have learned about these OpenSource softwares i.e. Linuxes and GNU softwares.
Due to cost factor,in my point of view and conviction, i hope to prefer using OpenSource/GNU Softwares. It's just that I wonder why GNU/OpenSource developers could not come-up with an application software that is comparable with Commercial softwares as to supported hardwares available in the industry. Or, shall we say that GNU/OpenSource is restricted to some point? I don't know the right term to use either restricted or regulated, etc... :-) i hope you guys get my point.

you got a good idea there. i'm not well versed in OpenSource softwares but i also believe that it is more affordable to use them and yet equally efficient with the commercial ones. i just think the developers of these don't have enough resources to meet the demands of getting into the "mainstream". they cannot come up to produce attractive packages that could compete with the 'big ones' due to insufficient resources and back-ups that bill gates, et al.
i'm not sure if i said anything sensible now. LOL! it's just what i think.

I may not fully agree with you that developers of OpenSource softwares dont have enough resources. Producing an efficient software only requires brilliant programming skills and i strongly believe that OpenSource got the most of the best programmers and developers around the world. The thing that i believe why OpenSource softwares are very variable as it seems, its because OpenSource developers did not come-up with one goal/objective in developing application softwares for OpenSource OSes. If only if they (OpenSource Developers and programmers) work as ONE big company, i think OpenSource could come up a sophisticated Software that will probably surpass softwares invented by Software Giants like Microsoft(r), Apple, etc...

You may have the point but i still believe that the ultimate factor that could pull-up remarkable users is the usability and universality of the Software they should have.

There will be time that open source softwares can now equal the commercial software because of the strong support that open source advocates give in the development.
Linux/Open Sources flagship OS is the Ubuntu 6.06 which is the most stable Open Source/Linux OS.
