Although today is just the first day of winter, I have been receiving seed magazines in the mail for quite a few weeks now. I had great luck with my raised vegetable bed this past spring/summer, and I would like to venture beyond the "norm" of tomatoes, beans, squash, etc. I live in New York (zone 5) and would like to try some different sort of vegetable crops, and maybe some fruits. I have 3 - 4x4 plots and 1 - 4x12 plot. Any suggestions? Also, I have a hill that I am thinking about starting pumpkins on (and possibly my squash). The only trouble is deer . . . those cute, but pesky critters! Any natural way to keep them at bay?
