The Strokes ARE form the U.S. I think the reason that they have not gained much support, is the fact, that they are not consistent. Every album that they produce is different, so it makes it difficult for people to produce a particular image about them. Really most U.S. people just look at them as an overhyped band with a couple catchy singles. Plus, the first album that they released "Is This It" was really good, and the content that they have produced since then, has not been up to par. Solid stuff in its own right, but not as fluid as the first one. ZeN

i disagree, in fact, the last two albums are quite good, but they are not as catchy as the "is this it" upon the first listen. americans are fickle idiots (i should know, i'm one of them) we turn on things as soon as they've been hyped up.

I think that the Strokes have maintained a smaller fanbase in America because they chose not to hire an enormous public relations firm. By sticking with a smaller management service, they avoided being shoved down the throats of the MTV watching Americans, much like a majority of the popular artists are.

honestly, they're all rich. i prefer that they don't become more popular so i can continue to see them at small venues without a bunch of screaming teenagers around me.

Their style is more in the favor of Brit/UK's style of rock. I think that their influences are Brit rock, such as Beetles and all, so it could take away some of the light that they can have in America. Or, it could all be a coincidence.

Maybe because their music sounds Brit-Rock. A lot of people may put them with Oasis, Coldplay, Artic Monkeys together. Maybe that's why Europe opened their doors to them :)

I thought the Strokes were British, so doesn't that make sense? The last band to truly take America by storm that was from Britain was the Beatles.
