Last Friday while I was driving to work...?
Last week while I was on my way to work I saw an accident, or rather, the aftermath of an accident and as I passed I thought to myself, there's no way the driver survived that! I prayed all the way to work because I could tell the driver had been a woman because her arm was sticking out of the driver window like she was waiting for help there, there were people standing there with her, so I thought, hey maybe she did and they're waiting for the ambulance. Later that afternoon, I read on the local news website that the driver of that vehicle had died at the scene. Even though I didn't know this woman I was devastated, she was only 20! She ran a red light, stupid yes, but she was only 20! I keep coming back to that, life is so short, I have a sister who just turned 21 this year. If anything ever happened to her I would DIE!
That poor family. How do you deal with these kinds of things????

Has the incident been reaccuring in your head? If so, you could be facing Post Traumatic Stress Disroder (PTSD). If it's severe enough to the point where it's all you think about or you're losing sleep over it, therapy and or medication might be in order. I wouldn't jump to these conclusions just yet, as you just witnessed the event. Give it some time..

I know it is very hard to try and forget something like that. A few years ago i was visiting my daughter who was living in Germany at the time ,anyway we were driving to Berlin on the Autobahn when the traffic just came to a stop we were there for about an hour and we seen a helicopter landing down the road so we new there was a bad accident. Finally when the road cleared and we started driving we came to the accident scene, there was a man lying on the side of the road covered with a jacket but his hand was uncovered. I thought about that for ages and could not get it out of my head, eventually i started thinking of it less and less but then someone mentions something or see something and it comes back but each time it is less traumatic. The one that i am having trouble with is a guy who worked with my husband ,his only child a daughter was killed in an accident with 3 other young kids all around 16 or 17 years old. The couple live near us and it affected our whole area and i just cannot get it out of my head . I keep thinking of how her parents are handling loosing their only child t

Some time back as I was driving on the freeway I saw the remains of a terrible accident. Some of the body parts had become dismembered and were on the road. Seeing this awful sight helped to make me a better driver.

whether you have been in an accident or witnessed it, its difficult to forget it.It kind of leaves a scar on you. People say just forget it and get on with your lives. Its kinda of difficult to just forget it,cause you know it might be you or your relatives the next time. Even i witnessed an accident involving two cars and a truck. A maruti 800 was sandwitched between a truck and a Honda city. The guy on the backseat was sandwitched between the seats and was screaming for help.Dunno whether he survived or not but i can never forget that scene. I guess you got to deal it in your own way. Whenever i remember it, i simply try to shift focus on other things.I know its difficult but thats how i deal with it.

I've seen this before, both as a sheriff Dept. volunteer when I was younger and then more recently as a Marine who had to go to the scene of a fatal drunk driving accident. I've seen people die in front of me from complete bizarre accidents and I've seen the aftermath of wrecks and drownings and it never really gets any easier but what you are going through is common. You are grieving and mourning for what could happen and even your own mortality. All I can say is let that experience make you closer to your sister without excessively worrying about her. Just let that accident make you appreciate the time you spend together with her. Also tell her how you feel and how that accident effected you. Maybe go out to the crash site and leave flowers as a way of honoring that lady and leaving your feelings there with the flowers. I hope you feel better soon!

if you happen to meet a situation like this, you should call for help. call 911, after an event like that, you should have talked to the family if you happen to meet them. in order to relieve any guilt you felt that time.

As to how to deal, I'm not sure myself. You just let time take it's course, I'd suppose. But my friend has had almost the same experience...only slightly worse.
She was with her friend and on the phone with her boyfriend when she watched as somebody was hit by a car who was racing with another. The vehicle hit the man with such force that it split the man in half. His foots was severed off, as well as his torso. She watched as he was hit...
