I am 21 living in the UK, I have had depression for near on 5 years and developed agoraphobia in that last 6 months. I leave the house maybe twice a week but only breifly if my partner and that is getting harder and harder. The doctors are trying to help but with not much success, The waiting list for therapy is a year, a year is a long time for someone struggle day to day. How are other people dealing with their situation?

I use hypnotherapy to get over stress which sometimes knocks me down badly. I remember seeing a television series about Paul McKenna who cured or at least got people to control their phobias including agarophobia, it was hard work for the woman involved but she eventually manged to control it and go out by herself for long periods.
I have a web site http://jack-badger,com on which I tell a bit about the problems I have had in my 54 years and promote the hypnotist that has helped me. Why not at least take a look, it wll cost you nothing to find out and it may not be necessary to go to a personal session with Adam (that his name and he has also appeared on UK TV when he helped with the training of several people to get over their phobias to run the London Marathon)he has sessions you can download or purchase CD sets for various situations.
I can only suggest you take a look and good luck.
If you do get to meet or talk to Adam you will find he is a great giy with a wicked sense of humour, not someone to be scared of.

I deal with mine with meditation and herbal remedies. I drink java java tea after a panic attack, it helps soothes my nerves and calms me down. Chamomile tea helps at night so that I get some rest. Malatonin (spelled wrong?) is an over the counter natural stimulant and I take a small dose when I feel a panic attack coming on. I reduced my shopping to once a month and I shop later in the evening to avoid crowds. I make sure I write a list of what I need at the grocery store so that I don't have to go back. I also reduced anything that would trigger an anxiety attack (panic attack) so that I can stabilize my moods. If I absolutely have to drive somewhere, I make sure I feel safe about where I am going or I have my boyfriend with me when I go. Carrying around a small stuffed toy (I made my own) that is filled with aromatherapy scents (lavender, rose, and/or bergamont) helps relieve tension.
