Why is it that toy trains are brought out only at Christmas time?

Growing up, my father always put up a train set around Christmas time, the whole family enjoyed playing with it for hours at a time. NOw as I look back I wonder why the train set was not brought out at more times during the year? Even at work I have a co-worker who has an N gauge train set he brings in every Christmas season, then it gets packed away til next year. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this.

probably for the same reason why people only cook turkey's on Thanksgiving...it's tradition! Seriously though, does anybody really have the room to keep a train set up and running for long periods of time? It's like the Christmas tree...it takes up so much room but we manuever around it and accept it's intrusive self until after the holidays. Set up and take down is a pain with a tree and so is it with a train set. Also maybe some people feel like setting up a train set at Christmas is a special treat and if you did it more during the year it wouldn't be as exciting or special when Christmas came along.
