How fresh do you think the meat really is in the super market?

Have you ever wondered how they come up with the sell by this date on the meat package? I mean really do you think they really can say when it will be bad?

I really worry about the deli meat you get at supermarkets. Sometimes you get it home and it is slimey! I have taken to buying only small amounts and asking when it was cut. I'm paying top price not the price for three day old cold meats.

Yes I totally agree, it is really expensive and you want to make sure you get what you are paying for.

Fresh meat are highly perishable and I believe the expiry date stated is an indication to inform/warn consumers against food poisoning. It does not mean that the meat is not as fresh as those direct from the butcher. Anyway, you'll be able to tell if the meat is fresh from the color, shine, texture, blood around it,etc. Choose carefully before you decide to buy it, whether it's from the supermarket or not.

Good point ! I really don't think they can say when meat is going to go bad. But if you freeze it and not let it get freezer burnt; it will be okay.
