Cod liver oil brings back memories of Mum-force-feeding you the foul tasting stuff to keep you healthy. Now it turns out the oil seems to have some benefit for adults with osteoarthritis. Researchers gave cod liver oil supplements to arthritic people waiting for knee-joint replacement surgery. After 10-14 weeks, 86% had significantly reduced levels of aggrecanase and collagenase, enzymes known to cause cartilage damage. While the researchers don't know exactly how cod liver oil works, they suspect the omega3 fatty acids in the oil play a role. Omega3's seem to slow down the damaging effects of arthritis. Until further research confirms these results, eating foods righ in omega3 (fatty fish like salmon) or taking cod liver oil capsules won't hurt you, and may help ease arthritis.

Thank you for this post. I have horrible carpal tunnel. I'm wondering if it would help with this also? I'm not sure if my CTS is really CTS or arthritis because I'm too afraid of doctors to bother.

I went through a year or two with carpal tunnel like symptoms, the doctor said it wasbut he wanted to do the electronic resistance test to see for sure~I forget the official test name, I refused. I have had some other pain issues and have seen a chiropracter as well, and done some research. Long story short, both the doctor and the chiro recommended B6 in megadoses for my arthritis, and surprise! the CTS got better. This is getting long, I may start a discussion on CTS. Look for it.

Treatment options vary depending on the type of arthritis and include physical and occupational therapy, medications (symptomatic or targeted at the disease process causing the arthritis), and as a last resort, arthroplasty. Although prosthetic joint replacement is a treatment of last resort, it is generally very effective and more than 90% of patients are very satisfied.

I hate that, when I was young my mom would give it to us, someone told me to give it to my son, he was sick for a while. I guess it's a good vitamin, it's just gross. I have not seen it in the stores though, maybe cuz I have not looked for it.

cod liver oil is also for anemia right? i remember taking this one the last time i had an iron deficiency related to hormonal imbalance. anyways good post. btw, arthritis is a degenerative disease plus the signs that u see in severe arthritis is irreversible. i hope cod liver oil, when proven, can reverse this one.

I suffer from arthritis in both my knees. It was so severe that my life was becoming unbearable. I couldn't kneel, I couldn't sit for long periods, as My knees would stiffen and I had to get up several times during the night to walk around. I couldn't stand for long periods as my knees would lock. I tried cod liver oil, omega 3 and Dona which was prescribed by my GP. None of them helped my condition. I was surfing the internet looking for anything that would help when I came across a health site, where I noticed people were discussing the benfits of taking Maca. Some reported that their pain was gone after taking Maca for only five days. I decided that I had nothing to lose, so I bought the Maca. Now I am please to report that my pain thought not gone completely has given me a new lease of life. I can now travel long distances by car, I can sit quite comfortably in restaurants and I sleep throughout the night. I also gave some to my son who suffers from sciatica and within a week of taking the Maca, his pain is gone. I am saving a fortune now on doctor's bills as is my son.

benefits of cold liver oil - It first became established in the fishing communities of Scotland, Iceland, Norway and Greenland several centuries ago where they used it to protect themselves against the rigour in the intense cold that they were exposed to. Our grandparents are fond of telling stories of taking their daily dose of Cod Liver Oil (CLO) to relieve such complaints as rheumatism, aching muscles and stiff joints.
this is all wat i know about cold liver oil The Benefits of Cod Liver Oil Blood flow – may be aided by EPA and DHA, discouraging blood platelets from sticking together. Blood pressure – EPA and DHA may help reduce this. Coronary Heart Disease – risk may be reduced if regular intakes are given. Research has shown that it reduces the likelihood of blood clotting, makes the heart less prone to arrhythmias (irregular heart beats). It alters the balance of blood fats in a favourable way and reduces the viscosity of blood, thereby faciliting blood flow. Bones and Teeth – require vitamin D to maintain their strength. Cod Liver Oil is a good source of vitamin D. Vision – Vitamin A is essential for the formation of visual purple (for night vision). Healthy Skin and Mucous Membranes – CLO is rich in Vitamin A, the large amount present is beneficial for skin and mucous membranes. Pregnancy – Omega 3 fatty acids are important for the brain development of the foetus. Arthritis – Improvements in the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis have been reported in patients taking fish oil supplements.

As a Natural Health Care Practitioner, we know that there are 3 basic rules for dealing with Arthritis. Essential fatty acids are always good for almost everything, and will address alot of issues, however, when it comes the joints... the three rules are 1- clean the joint, 2- build the joint, 3- maintain the joint. There are herbs, herb combos, and supplements that will do this efficiently over a period of time....and as always, dietary and lifestyle changes are necessary to address the ROOT causes of all diseases.

Gamat extract is proven to have a positive impact to cure arthritis. My mother who has arthritis has shown tremendous improvement after consuming the gamat extract for several weeks. However gamat has its side effects too. for people who has allergies to seafood, they couldn't consume the gamat extract.

Arthritis is an inflammatory disease, in which cartilage - the tough material within joints that protects the bone surface - is slowly degraded, causing increasing damage. When it reaches a certain point, knee and hip joints may have to be replaced to reduce the pain levels and disability. The disease is complex and not fully understood. Its not proven that cod liver oil is a remedy for Arthritis. so We cant exactly say that about cod liver oil.yet as the saying goes "Something is better than nothing". Hence for people suffering from arthritis, its working something better...
