Septic versus Sewer?

I was on my way to a convenient store this afternoon when I passed by a new street they've created for some some-what nice homes. Most the time when you have homes such as this, you're considered living in a nice neighborhood - usually in a town where there is a sewer system.
This new community is right down the road from my house. Therefore, I know these homes will be built on a septic system. Personally, I would never buy these homes for nearly $200,000 (much like the photo enclosed) if they are on a septic system. So, why are they building them? Would any of you buy one of these homes even though they do not have a sewer system. If so/not...why/why not?
