Is a fig a flower or a fruit? If it is a fruit, why is it that it has a hole at the base? To me it looks like a flower turned in on itself. How many times a year does a fig tree fruit? Is it true that there are male & female figs? Is it true that it is the female ones that are edible and the male ones that are dry & not very sweet? If so, why? Explain why figs are so mysterious. Are there any other examples with "fruits" that have holes in them?
