I think it is by showing your real self and not the other way around. Don't be afraid of who you are because you feel that you will be rejected by them. What is important is your honest to yourself that you are showing the real you and it is a fact that you cannot please everyone. If others will not accept you then that is their problem anymore. At least you tried your best to deal with the person honestly.

Be yourself, be responsible to others, be humble, and prove that u do what u can do. You will be a real person then.
