Livestock management is an important allied activity in the district without distinctive breed of cattle or buffalo. The native cows and buffaloes and diminutive in size with stunted growth and definite breed characteristics. In order to upgrade the cattle, artificial insemination centers have been set up in all the veterinary dispensaries operating in the district. Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) operates a Dairy Unit in Mangalore with procurement and processing of the dairy milk upto 3.53 lac litres through 166 Primary Milk Producers Co-operative Societies. The District Fodder Development Centre at Koila was established to conduct trial and demonstration of fodder production. The animal population in the district is 4.21 lac
The South Kanara District Poultry Producers Marketing Society, Mangalore is actively engaged in the development of Poultry farming in the district. Nearly 4.06 lac eggs are produced daily in the district. The goat and sheep population is insignificant in the district due to heavy rainfall. Piggery is gaining momentum in the district and of late offers excellent scope for its development.

Well livestock business venturing is a good way to make lot's of money. My cousin own a livestock business and he imports cows from Australia. His main clients are restuarants and groceries stores. It's a lucrative business venture indeed.

Animal husbandry is the agricultural practice of breeding and raising livestock. As such, it is a vital skill for farmers and, in some countries in many ways, as much art as it is science. Other countries have strict laws on the qualifications needed to treat animals and ensure that scientific methods are used to care for them.
So it's like the management of animal farming. If you want a lot of safe animal and animal by-products in the most cost-efficient manner, then animal husbandry is important.
