I would like to research how cremation is done. Is the body just thrown into fire or what? Are their clothing left on?
Maybe there is a website that can explain all of this to me.

the url for the explaination does not say if clothes are left on or not but I believe that clothes are left on for when we had hubby cremated we had to take off his belt and bolo tie for they told us that the metal wasnt good to be left on the body.
Also heard one fellow was cremated with his birthday presents he had just got before he passed away

From what I have seen on shows and what I have been told. The person's body can be placed into a coffin or box I guess you can call it. Then placed inside a burner that get's to a certain temp. which reduces the person to ashes. My husband's grandmother and grandfather were both creamated. I know for for a fact that his grandmother was cremated in her favorite outfit. As my mother in law put, it wasn't a dress or a skirt or completely white. They can't just throw a body into a fire. The coffin is placed on a belt that slowly enters the chamber, then they close the door. This is what I want done, after I die.

My dad was cremated in his favorite fishing vest (among other clothes), and I believe either my mom or sister tucked a picture of my nephew into his pocket.
There is some kind of container they're placed in, but yeah.. can't remember the exact name for it. I do know that for bodies where people have pace makers or anything like that, those things have to be removed from the body before they can be cremated. Not pleasant to think about, but it's true.
There is a place where you can be cremated, and have your ashed put into these man-made reefs, which are placed into the ocean.. to help with the environment (give fish, and other sea life places to dwell). Eternal Reefs. This is something I would love to have done. http://www.eternalreefs.com/

Thank you for posting this. Yours was pretty much the only comment in this discussion that was worth reading.

Recently my mother passed away. The body was taken in a wooden stretcher. According to the Hindu rites, the elder son of the deceased has to carry a pot in which they put the fire. The priests chant from sacred books. After the formalities, the body is taken and placed on a track and it is pulled by a mechanical device into the burner.
As a custom, a piece of gold is left with the body along with closes on. As a sentiment, the deceased favourite cloth like wollen shawl, is also kept.
Next day, if one wishes to have the bones and ashes of the deceased, one can collect it. People immerse these in a river an indication that the soul shall rest in peace.

Someone told me that when you are cremated...the family never knows if those are your ashes or not! So they just scoop up whatever burned and give it to the family! I think the only person that really knows the truth is the person that puts you in there and takes you out!
