yes you can learn but you should also try to write codes in other texteditors or softwares for practice, because practice makes a person perfect.

First, u used Dreamweaver and I played with it, but now I think that you should learn HTML, CSS and server and client scripting to know how to make a web-page. I hate when someone says taht he will make a web-page and by that he means open Dreamweaver, put in a table, sat a background image and that's all. GRHHHH! That kind of pages are ruining the internet. In that case better thing to do is to download some templates and use them.
If you want to learn codes the best thing you can do is to visit
www.w3schools.com
and learn from HTML to Flash.
You also must know how to make attractive designs in Photoshop but that's completly other thing.

you're right, the only way you'll ever learn anything about webdesign will be using notepad (or a nice notepad like crimson editor) to type up pages on. Practice and memorization.

Sure, you can learn html, css using the dreamweaver mx 2004.
dreamweaver is a very user friendly software and it generates the html code as you work in the designer's window, it is generally called "what you see is what you get" software.
An expert can also write code into the code pane and it will generate the preview in the design window.
If you are new to html, css - start dreamweaver and press F1... thats it, you will get very good help contents with which you can learn to operate the software as well as learn the html and then css at a later stage.
All the best!

Yes I am a web designer. You can of course learn html css and php if you work with Dreamweaver MX 2004. But I would recommend you to learn html separately. It is the root of any design. WIthout it you can learn php or css. It will make you understand better. But if you want to go slow go ahead with Dreamweaver MX 2004. www.w3school.com is a good website. They give you good tutorials to understand.
