i guess a girl thinks that the boy will not be interested in her if she says a age where she is much older or if she is much younger then she will think that what if the boy gets too much interested in her.....
well, nowadays they usually speak out their days lived rather hiding it....

Perhaps she thinks she is too young for the man. Or she thinks she is too old. If she lies because she wants him to think she is younger.. well, younger is better right. Certainly 29 sounds better than 36. Right?
