I don't talk about their ideas... I don't like military leaders too for this aspect. But I talk about military tactics, pulback, strategy, etc.

Hi there! My vote for the best commanders: - Alexander the Great - Frederick the Great - Napoleon - Nelson Worst commander: - Maj-Gen Henry Gordon Bennett - he deserted his troops to save his own skin during the Battle of Singapore, 1942. Hundreds of his troops also deserted and went on drunken rampages and attacked the population they were supposed to protect. DISGRACEFUL!!

Hannibal the Carthiginean general gets my vote. Any man brave or crazy enough to bring an army, which included elephants, through the Alps gets my vote. Hitler was the worst for the way he used his military skills. I wouldn't have wanted to have been one of his Panzer drivers, either, stuck and cut off by Russian troops. I would add Mussolini in there as well.

Hitler is by part the worst commanders. If he was not acting on his own ideals Germany could have won over russia. I would say Napoleon was one of my best military leaders. It took 7 nations to bring down Napoleon in Europe during the Waterloo Campaign. I must admit for just one man against 7 others is not a fair defeat.

Some of the best : Napleon Charles XII of sweden. Have a look at the Battle of Narva. Against some great odds 3 to 1, he won against the Russian.

How do you define best and worst? Napoleon was a brilliant general, but he won his battles without any consideration for the lives of his soldiers, was he a good commander because he won his battles or a bad commander because he had no consideration for the men he commanded?

The best would have to be Alxander the Great or Hannibal. Julius Ceaser would be high up as would Napolean. As for worst..there has been so many. McNamara who pretty much ensured America could never winin Vietnam. Saddam Hussein has got to rank pretty highly in the all time losers league.
