It all depends on where you live I suppose. My husband adopted my oldest daughter and it did not take long at all a month or two if that, alot depends on the situation with the biological father. My daughters birth father had nothing to do with us so we had a very easy time.

Also my daughter was very small and we started mentioning it very early and kept on and she did just fine. We did not want her to think it was anything bad but a good thing for all of us. The day we got married she was running around the church saying me and mommy are marrying daddy today LOL.....now she is 21!!!

I'm not sure how long the process takes, it may depend upon her bio dad and whether or not he is findable and willing to relinquish parental rights. At 2.5 she doesn't understand the difference between daddy and bio dad. Let her be a kid with a loving daddy and don't confuse her with grown up details!

I agree, it probably varies depending on where you live. My husband adopted my daughter 10 years ago so I don't remember how long it took. There was no objection from bio dad, in fact he insisted. I don't think it took long at all. It was just a matter of filing paperwork with a lawyer and then meeting with a judge to sign the papers. Good luck!
