Is being one's best friend a two way approach?

I know I consider one of my friends to be the best friend of mine. Is it also necessary that he also consider me to be of his best friend?

i think a friend could be possible, but as a best friend.. that would be difficult

Yes its true, as a best friend its difficult. But tell me is it necessary? A best friend as the best in all respect as far as I'm concerned, does he also think likewise?

Usually it's a two way street, but sometimes it isn't. I have a couple friend's I consider to be my best friends who consider me just a good friend. I don't take any offence to it, but it's always nice when the sentiment is returned.
