How can we reduce climate change?

I was really affected by Al Gore's - An Inconvenient Truth I think what is quite important is switching electrical appliances from the wall socket.

The one way to chance it, is begin a global chain where the people stop uses of all things that afect nature.

Can't people make individual changes to their own lifestyle and make a difference. If you start buying products that contribute less to global warming wouldn't all the manufacturers adapt.
