I would have to say A- Rod. A- Rod has already been MVP and even had 35 hrs, 120+ RBI last year, which was considered BAD. I think Jeter is Mr. Yankee so every good thing he does is magnified while A- Rod is not looked at as highly. However, A- Rod's numbers are always better than Jeter and though he is having his defensive struggles, don't forget he was a Golden Glove shortstop.

Yeah, I agree that A-rod may not get the credit he deserves, but have you seen his numbers in late-game/clutch/important/whatreallymatterstoyankeesfans situations? This is why I'm going to have to go with Jeter. He always manages to get the base hit or just get on base when it matters most, and that's undeniable.

I agree with thebrainchild. Alex Rodriguez was once a Gold Glove Shortstop. One of the best defensive players in the league not to long ago. The Yankees should have expected Alex Rodriguez to struggle because of the position change. I'm sure if they were to move Jeter to third base he would also have some struggles. When you compare A-Rods numbers to Jeters there is no comparison. A-Rod is by far the better player of the two. Jeter is so overrated its ridiculous.

Derek Jeter makes the Yankees be a great team. He's not the most talented player on the team, but he is the best player. Mariano Rivera would my choice for second. The Yankees need to give him another big money contract. He's earned it.

Guys, guys, let's be reasonable here.
The best player on the New York Yankees talent-wise, offense-wise, is Alex Rodriguez by far. He is a truly rare talent that nobody can match not only just on the Yankees, but in all of baseball. He will surely break a ton of records in baseball, including Barry Bonds' "home run" record. But he's also better at defense than any other Yankee , yes, including Derek Jeter.
However, in terms of overall value, I think Jeter is the most important player on the Yankees. He provides leadership and steady offense and defense, as well as that mentality to always win. Jeter is the poster boy for MLB, and as well should be. (He also got ripped off on last year's MVP voting- he should've been the MVP).
But best player, it's hard to argue with Alex Rodriguez. He's not the most important player on the Yankees, but their best player.

I think the best Yankees player is Jorge Posada. He deserves some recognition since Jeter & A-Rod get so much love.

Every year the Yanks bring in expensive talent and every year the home grown Jeter is the best.

Like everyone else said, Derek Jeter is the best Yankee. But I think the person who has the most potential is Robinson Cano. He is a great player and will help us win championships in the future.

The best position player is definitly Jeter, but the best pitcher in the rotation with the most potential is Chien-Ming Wang and the best prospect is Phil Hughes
