Has the Cost of Living grown past your income where you live?

I live in South Florida, and over the past 6 years, the cost of living here has gone up at an unbelievable pace. A house that cost 100,000 dollars 6 years ago now may cost up to 300,000 dollars. Gas prices are in the mid 2's. Electric bills are close to 200 dollars in summer months. Homeowners Insurance has gone up 300 percent due to the recent hurricanes the past few years. I have a very good job in the computer industry, and I get an annual raise of usually 3-5 percent, yet, that raise never seems to do anything but cover cost of living increases. Has the cost of living gotten out of control where you live?

Yes to your ? I live in a town of about 20,000. in south centeral Oklahoma. You can't rent a house here for under $325. Gas prices are at 2.17 Gal. I notice someone here the other day said that Minm. wage was 5.25 not here its still 5.15. My son makes 10 something a hour on his job but he has to drive 30 miles to work. think about it that sixty miles and then he had to pay for food. after his rent and utlities. his family is just getting by.

I totally understand what you mean. Here is a very telling fact in South Florida...the government passed a law last year that put the maximum income to qualify for welfare at 69,000 dollars. 69,000 dollars!!! That is crazy to think that someone could make that much money, but still qualify for welfare. Teachers, firemen, and policemen, are said to be very underpaid here in Florida, and many of them are moving away because they cannot find housing, even renting a house, on what they make.

Yes the costs is going higher, I even had a set back with my income early in 2006, still making a decent living but saving much less than before, if things don't get better in 2007 I will not be saving anything as my expenses is ever raising, all prices are going up, maybe oil price is behind it all as they say but even when it goes down you don't see any effect and prices doesn't go down :(

i think if u believe economists it happens everywhere..and the reasons inflation and time value of money..and its the results of the way an economy or a country functions..and it happens everywhere..whether in Florida, New York, California, or for that Japan, Russia..and every place u can think of..but yes the rate at which it changes or increases differs from place to place..

I live in a part of Texas that has a much lower cost of living than the majority of the country. My county, in fact, is one of the poorest around here. Of course, our pay is lower than in most places, too, but since we don't need as much money to get by it hasn't been too bad. Lately the cost of living has risen drastically yet our income hasn't risen at all. It's tough and getting tougher every day! I'll say this, though. You said electric bills are close to $200 in the summer. Ours haven't been under $250 in the summertime in many years and are usually between $275 and $300. Gas here runs about $2.19 a gallon, though. A gallon of milk is about $3.85 in grocery stores and $2.99 at a particular convenience store. We manage but it's truly the grace of our Father that gets us through!

I live in an Asian country which is quite developed. People say that Asia is cheap to live in. I do not think so. The cost of living has increased tremendously in contrast to salary increase. I have not had a pay raise since 1998. Try to complain and my boss will say that if I am not happy, the door is open wide for me to step out. I had to resort to looking for second income in order to pay my housing mortgages, bills that never seem to lower but keep getting higher and higher. But I am not a loser. My gut feeling tells me that I will be financially free. I just need to strategize my time and effort. There must be realignment in the way I look at my income.

I'm a qualified builder and as such make a decent living. However, my partner and I are in such bad debt that the majority of my wage seems to go towards that and then living expenses, which as you asked, are out of hand. I went away for work the otehr week to a country town and it cost me almost five dollars for a not so fresh loaf of homebrand bread. OUCH!

Yes, it has grown past my income and it still is growing and spreading like a wild fire, especially the rates of the real estate in my place is rising like anything, making it impossible for a middle-class family to buy some house or land for that purpose. I am very concerned and alarmed about this trend, if this continues on, I have no idea how to survive in this situation, only time will tell.

Yes. I have no doubt, I think that this growning is in all world. Currently the world is in this way: the rich are becoming more rich, and the poor more poor. So we must acept this hard reality if we are not rich.

I think the prices rise all over the world....especially the ones related to buildings or land... I am from Romania, and I live in the second largest city, and I am amased by the prices....for example...one square meter of land that costed 1$ 6 years ago.....is now estimated at 70-100$ (depending on the location) and rising. i know it seems hard to belive....but it is true.many people became millionaires because of this out here.

World economy is growing. But the wealth is going into the hands of wealthy persons only. Just this discussion I put about half an hour back. Water naturally flows down Wealth naturally flows to wealthy. Slowly the economy is turning capitalistic.
