I wanted a nice, easy hommade christmas presnt, so I thought I would make bowls out of records. I would post pics, If I had a high enough post count.... Basically it involves heating and bending a record into the shape of the bowl. Iwas wondering if anyone here had dones this before, and /or knew of a good techinque for making these things.

That's an interesting idea. My mother just got rid of a huge record collection she had too. I'll have to keep checking back to see if anyone gives some instructions on how to do that. Maybe I can collect some of her records before she gets rid of them all.

Oh, I saw these recently on instructables.com. Do a search for it there and you'll find directions and photos. Neat idea. :)

Thanks, www.instructables.com is a way cool site, and they had some good info. Basically they suggest preheating an oven to two hundred degrees, warming up the record in the oven, until it is soft, and the forming it in a mixing bowl. I have not tried their method yet. So far, I have warmed an upside-down mixing bowl on the stove, and then softened and formed my bowl arround that. Tommmorow, I am gonna try it their way.
