In the Chronicles of Narnia did you get the message?

I read these books by C.S. Lewis when I was very young, maybe 35 years ago. I loved them. I didn't know at the time that he was a Christian author, but I remember right away feeling that the Lion, Aslan, was a representation of the hope we have in the Risen Christ. Remember how he dies but at the end he comes back. It's impossible to miss this. I love the Chronicles. It's like a grownups fairytale.

yeah, I love that series. I still have the old copy that I got as a girl and read it from time to time of the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe. A lot of people don't realize that the series was writen to by a christian and symbolisim of Christ.

I really love Narnia, the whole chronicles. I feel that I can identify myself with every main characters in each chronicle. I especially love The Boy and The Horses, I think it resembles the life of Moses in some way. Reading the whole chronicles is like reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. It's so fascinating. CS Lewis is truly a great author, he could put deep theology into simple form that even children will like and understand it.
Long live, Aslan! =D

Dear kbkbooks,
I have to thank you for bringing up this discussion. It reminded me of how much I enjoyed reading Narnia. I'm going to re-read them all, seeing how God works in unthinkable ways, interwaving every event to bring goodness to those He loves =)
And to other myLotters who have not read the whole chronicles, I would also like to encourage you guys to read them. They're really wonderful stories, even for adults like us =)

LOL.. evidently I was a bit "slow" as a kid? I read the Chronicles as a pre-teen I think and I had no clue it was filled with "hidden messages" and ideas at all during that time. I loved the books and read them over again even, something I rarely do. I even got our "little brother" from Big Brothers to read it when he was a pre-teen and he fell in love with the series too. The odd part is, I've heard others comment on how they'd never allow books about witches be read by their Christian kids. LOL To be honest I never even realized it as an adult until just recently from another conversation I was having on a reading group.
Very interesting indeed. No matter what the undertow was supposed to be, it is a wonderful creation for all to enjoy!

I have read the whole series and always got a nice peaceful feeling from Aslan. I think kids can enjoy it too. They just probably wouldn't pick up on all the hidden meanings. I was just thinking as I was typing, I guess if it has Christian ties, then Mr Tumnus would be like Judas. Except Tumnus couldn't go through with it and Judas did.

I love those stories, too. But I never noticed the Christian undertones when I was a child. Now that everyone has pointed it out to me, I must admit it disappoints me. I was told almost every stoy growing up had some Jesus reference in it, and it gets tiring. Honestly, can't a girl just read a story without it having to have religioun brought into it? If I want religion, there are books I can read - the Bible, the Torah, the Quran...

If you enjoyed the books for their fantasy quality, I don't think there is anything wrong with it. The fact is Christianity is your choice. You're presented with it and you can choose to take it or not. Jesus never forced anyone to choose to believe in Him. There may be people over the years who have distorted that like cults and some twisted so called missions, but Jesus wants you to come to your own conclusion and make your own decision. If people choose to infiltrate their work with what they believe in, it's only a suggestion to you and not an imperative.

i haven't read that book but i saw the movie... i have the other book of C.S Lewis, The Voyage of the Dawn treader. It is just a continued story of Narnia... But anyways, talking about the story... Indeed the Chronicles of Narnia is about Christianity... a different way to show about religion without people knowing that it is about Christianity... another fact... did you know that the author of The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R Tolkiens and C.S Lewis were actually friends and they usually talked about their writings... That is why their story is a little bit the same... both of them talk about Christianity...

thats cool question i see your question to be different
i love that movie to a great extent .Offcourse you should have no doubt regarding this issue its aimed to deliver a message and it did . The representation of aslan to risen jesus and four kids to four disciples who moved with him at the last prayer.four kids with the beavers and one more animal indicate the seven churches which were said in last part of new testament.
Their christmas gifts represents the spritual powers of god which he gives to his followers in order to overcome the evil and the chocolate that the witch offered refers to the sweet words that were spoken to eve by satan in disguise of serpent.i hope now you would have understood that this story did what it is aimed for after a long time.

I always thought that it was a pretty in your face message and I'm not even a Christian. What always seemed the ultimate irony to me was that in the 80 there was a list of books that were banned from certain school libraries in parts of California on the grounds of being anti christian and the Narnia books were on it.There are some really ill informed people making some very big decissions in this world.

Oh yes! This is definitely a great movie. At first you would think it as one of the movies for children and kids only but when you get to watch it, you will be strucked by the message. I agree with you that the Lion represents God who offers himself in the love of the child who represents also the people. The evil won't win whatever it will do. It's always the good who will win at the end. I really like the story a lot! Thanks for posting this discussion! :)
