What would you suggest?
I'm asking for everyone's help. If you have a suggestion on how to make mLot better, here's your chance. I'm sure they'll see this anyway, but if you want to help out, just respond with what you think would be a great addition to myLot, and possibly why that'd be great. I can take a lot of these ideas and submit them to myLot formally.
Whether they be rules-oriented or layout oriented or whatever.
I would like to start by suggesting this:
When you repond to or comment on a discussion it's really annoying, if you're posting on any other page but page 1, to have to comment and get thrown back to page 1 again. This is particularily annoying while responding to your own discussions that are pages and pages long.
I think it'd be great that once you've commented that you get brought back to the page you were last on.
Also I don't think that having the sidebar is useless and should only be on our profile page. If anything it should be a small bar between the top myLot bar and the navigation bar and no picture. I don't need to see my picture all the time. I know what it is :)
I have more, but I'd like to see what you guys come up with. I promise that when I submit these ideas to myLot, each person who's idea I use in the message will get credit in the message. Or you can submit it to myLot yourself too.
So c'mon everyone, how would you make myLot better?

Someone responded to one of my discussions with a suggestion that MyLot come up with a list of topics and discussions in different categories which we could respond to. There should be something for everyone, and it would eliminate the single-sentence "discussion" with the 1 or 2 word answers. I thought it was worth considering.
We were also talking about how people start discussions and then abandon them. Some great ideas were brought up: if you get the answer to your question or feel that the discussion is all talked out, post a comment saying so, and try to put the discussion to rest to avoid people adding the same thing over & over. It can always be "revived" later on with different users if appropriate.
When a user starts a discussion, he/she should act as a "moderator" and at least show a presence in the discussion and an interest in the comments. Some suggestions were to post a comment to every page or to approximately 50% of the responses. Another idea was to post once/day thanking everyone for their opinions and thoughts and commenting on a few things. This just shows respect for those who have taken the time to answer you.
It was also brought up that maybe some of the foreign users do not understand the MyLot guidelines and rules, or how to use the functions of the system- we know that a lot can get lost in translation, and a lot of users have a very, very basic command of the English language. Maybe the guidelines and a simple tutorial could be available in a few of the most common languages, or a bilingual user could function as a translator for the guidelines.

Some good ideas, thanks again!
I agree with the last one a lot... some of the bilingual users could volunteer or get "paid" to translate the rules and whatever tutorial is made so that these users know the rules. I too think it's a big reason why there is so much spam.
I think I already mentioned something about picking general topics as the tags and the search mixed with the ESL issues is a reason why people start topics that have already been started but worded differently, etcl.
I think it would DEFINATELY be a good idea that we "have" to moderate our discussion once we've started it... and that myLot should give us a monetary incentive to do just that. More people would keep up with their discussions that way.
If my rating reflected my comments in my own discussions, where I honestly spend most of my time here, then I would probably be around the 700-800 range right now.
Thanks agian for the great ideas!

no not at all, when you remove your own post, your point will be lost and as mylot itself removes it , your earning is automatically changed , so there will be no problem from mylot side too, you might be knowing that mylote removes sams/copies of other posts/ discussions .. and once it is removed all the responses are also removed from the discussion and many users looses there points , the only difference will be before the post is being removed by mylot, you yourself can remove it, and the result will be same as if mylot removes it ...... hope ou will get my point

well I started a similar discussion sometime back and got a few really good ideas..like mail alerts when a friend starts a discussion, alerts when someone starts a discussion to check whether a similar discussion discussion exists... more categorisation of topics, say on regions..better search options and a lot more..nice topic to start..

I, too, think it's better to generalize the "interests" topics. There's too much margin for error, especially for those for who English isn't their primary language and you might have 10 versions of a television show up because of spelling mistakes and such.
It should be general first and then specialized. It would make it easier to find something you're looking for, indeed.

i have this suggestion:
when go to the discussions u have started and posted ur comments to the responses received, u have go back to discussions and to 'disucssions i have started'.
i think there should be a shortcut way to go to the 'discussions i have started' on every page.
2. while responding to a discussions, 'tags' field should be made available in the response page itself. this reduces the delay to respond to the discussions.

That's a good one that I thought of as well. Everytime I want to see them I have to go back and follow the path over and over again. THAT should be the sidebar. It'd be much more handy to have the types of discussions available there.
I think the search function for myLot is really poor. Often times I can't find a single thing... but it probably also has a lot to do with spelling mistakes on tags or in discussion titles and content as well.

i have like to have following improvements:
1. we should have ability to delete our own discussions, if there are zero responses.
2. we should be allowed to edit our responses and photos.
3. we should be allowed to update a full photo folder.

The browzer I use is Mozilla Firefox. When I downloaded and the MyLot Toolbar and installed it installed in IE and not in Mozilla Firefix. It is good if a Tool bar compatible with the Mozilla Firefox also is created.

hi,my sincere advise is....don't register the new members unless they read mylot rules.....its become a big nuisense........still we are getting discussiuons on what mylot banned........1]using capital letters. 2]ban on cut and paste from wikipedia like referances..3]ban on promotion/mention the outer referal sites/links. 4]copying other's discussions and yes or no answer questions.........by seeing all these we have to give response to only good discussions and under mylot rules discussions become hard for other members.

I am not able to scroll properly through my unresolved discussions as I keep getting a script error message when I want to go from page one to another page of my unresolved topics so I would like to see that fixed. I too agree about the commenting and how it takes you back to page one instead of taking it back to where you left off. Those are my suggestions.

Umh... I don;t see any spell corection. As far as I know, spell correction doesn;t give me much effect. BUt nice idea.
O yeah... about 500 post, I don;t think that big enough. In normal forum that I follow, I able to made 500 post a week (in Indonesian forum). But since mylot is English fiorum, I need more time to reach it.
And my only sugestion is how if mylot make this site more easier to access for slow connection member. I need a lot of time to open this site.
O yeah.. and I agree with tools that can remove our own post. Sometimes I do double post because internet connection is lagh

It would be better if the conversatins were "deeper". Bt that I mean that I can respond to a comment made on this discussion, but I can't then respond to a response. Some topics that could make for some really interesting debates get cut off because the format is so limited. I can talk to you (the original poster) but that's about it. It's not well designed for long-term investment.

The three strike rule could be for repeat posts If three people notice the same discussion three times posted on three different days but worded differently. The top user icon should explain how they arrived at that figure i.e how many topics/replies.

I agree with some ideas, but again, I will always say why make rules that will penalize those of us who are here for a good conversation. And the fact of the matter is, if you really have strong feelings about something you're always going to offend someone--so why give them the ability to eradicate your posts. Leave some things alone people, please.
Thank you,
DR...
