My sister-in-law is taller than her husband and she has been cursing her husband and his family for not giving correct information before the marriage took place. I do not know what difference it makes if the man is shorted by a few inches. Similarly what difference it makes if the girl is shorter than the man. In my opinion it makes no difference except not satisfying the ego. Man wanted to walk tall - symbolizes male chevanism.

I don't really understand.. you mean theirs is an arranged marriage? Is that why she doesn't know that her husband is shorter?

I guess it is cultural conditioning, and I'd like to change it, but I find it a little disconcerting if my girlfriend / partner is taller than me. I am 5'11 so it doesn't happen that often.

Lol.. you're right.. you probably won't experience that very often =)

I can accept my man being the same height as me, but someone shorter, I don't think so. I would find it awkward to hug or kiss him.

Ya.. that's a good point =)

I don't think heighth would, or should, be an issue at all. I think I would accept my significant other even if he was shorter than I was. For me, it's all what's in the heart, and how he treats me, that matters. Like they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Indeed, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.. as long as both parties does not mind it =)

I am only 5'4 so I haven't had a hard time finding taller men, but my friend is very tall, a bit over six feet, and her man is shorter than she is. Personally, I always think it looks funny, but if she's happy, I don't see how it matters. It's whats on the inside that matters anyway.

No he does not and in my past I usually dated men that were shorter than me, and now finally having a boyfriend, he is waaaay taller than me, which is a massive adjustment to get used to but I am in love with him as a person. I am never ever the shorter person, ever! Now I am but it's all good.

I never cared for shorter men. However, that doesn't mean that if I'd met one I loved I might not have compromised my ideals. We've been taught to believe that a man has to be taller, but who made that rule?
• Singapore
20 Oct 06
That's true.. i don't know who made that rule.. seems like it's passed down over generations.. haha.. but anyways i think it's the comfort level of both parties that matters =)

what does the size of man have to do with how you feel about him. I guess in the beging. But what if you couldnt see him and you had this great conv. would what he looks like change how you feel?

If the couple is ok about it, i don't think it's a big issue.. the thing is sometimes it does affect the relationship if they try to accomodate in the beginning and then as time goes by, things just don't go as good as they want it to be, issues like this will then come in..

I have never dated anyone shorter than me! I need a man to be a man(doesn't mean that short men aren't men..)and make me feel protected....If I did date a shorter man I wouldn't feel protected.....
• Singapore

Yeah.. i've had bfs of the same height.. but i agree with what you said.. i feel protected with taller man too =)

i dont think height is a barrier for two people in love.but in todays world it is a must custom that the man has to be taller than the woman.but i beleive its not a big deal but that couple may stand out in a crowd.

So it's kind of like a social stigma more than anything else right? Do you think girls will actually mind going out with guys that are shorter cos of this social stigma?

i think its up to the individual and also if the man is happy to be with a taller female. My brother's wife is taller than him and they couldn't care less. However the men i have been out with have been taller than me so, no i dont want to be with someone shorter
• Singapore

I guess it does depend on how comfortable both parties of the relationship is.. just like your brother and his wife =)

I am more traditional in my view that the man should be taller than the woman, but to each her own. I was involved with a man who was 5'4"- I am 5'7"- and to be honest I was self-conscious about it when we were in public and I could not get passed feeling silly to be seen together, needless to say we are no longer involved. I could not get passed his height it was just a weakness of mine.
• Singapore
8 Oct 06
I have similar views too.. in the first place, i wouldn't even consider man who are shorter than me.. though they can be very good friends, but i think it'll be kind of weird.. though i've seen couples where the woman is taller and they're still happily together =)
